THE ARTIST

Hi, I’m Ramona, the artist behind Love on Thread.

I was born in Latvia and moved to Paris when I was ten. I spent most of my early years there before moving around and eventually training to become a primary school teacher. I worked internationally for several years, teaching in different countries.

When I met my husband, our life became even more mobile due to his work. With frequent moves, continuing a stable teaching career became difficult. That’s when I decided to shift directions and focus on something I had always dreamt about - Art.

I began studying art online, with a primary focus on watercolor. For a while, I struggled to find a style that felt truly my own. Then, during a class assignment, I was asked to combine watercolor with another medium. I decided to try embroidery, and that combination changed everything.

As I stitched into a few watercolor paintings, I really liked the look and feel of it. At the time, I didn’t plan for it to become anything more.

THE STORY

Later that year, our friends were getting married, and I wanted to create something meaningful for them. That’s when the idea of embroidered wedding portraits came to me. I made two paintings as gifts, adding thread to highlight the flower bouquet, boutonniere, and hair accessories.

The process sparked something. I realized I wanted to keep doing this and to paint and embroider love stories from around the world, and to create pieces that people could treasure, not just as art, but as part of their story. That’s how Love on Thread began.

What started as a gift for friends has grown into a way of working with couples to preserve one of the most meaningful moments in their lives. I now create custom, hand-painted wedding portraits with embroidered details for people around the world. Each piece is based on a real moment, a wedding photo, and is carefully made to become a lasting keepsake.

It's a way to turn a memory into something tangible. Something you can hold, frame, or gift. A small piece of a big day, preserved in paint and thread.
